The friends were the first people to import and retail Xylitol in South Africa. There and then, they decided that they would always make sure that quality and health were their top priorities, and that there would be no compromise with the product that would become known as Sweet Nothings.
Educating people about this unknown product was a great challenge but the friends persevered. They often spent long hours packing their product, personally visiting prospective customers to spread the word on the benefits of Sweet Nothings Xylitol and to deliver stock to existing ones. It was heart-warming to see how it helped relatives, friends and new customers manage their diet and wellness.
Later, as the business grew from strength to strength, the operation was moved to KwaZulu-Natal where they opened their own packing shed on a small holding in the green hills of the Wartburg area.
The one friend, who hailed from Cape Town, then decided to sell her share.
The business made another big change and moved the operation to established Contract Packers in the New Germany area. The state-of-art facility met all the exacting international standards of a modern food manufacturing operation which complimented the Sweet Nothings brand promise of “Nothing but the Best”.
The timing couldn’t have been better. Demand surged as Xylitol was endorsed by Tim Noakes, in his book “The Real Meal Revolution”, as one of only two sweeteners he could recommend; and the Banting (LCHF) eating plan becoming so popular.
Which brings us up to today, when finally it was time for the other friend to retire, and she sold her shares on to entrepreneurs, who share the same passion for the business. “To believe in what we do, and make it our life’s work, is an opportunity we couldn’t miss out on.”
